Trucking spot freight jumps in December 2009

Monday, February 1, 2010 by Mike Curts
According to recent statistics the trucking economy is slowly improving. Spot freight in December increased 11 percent over November and was more than double the amount for December 2008, based on the TransCore Freight Index. December is typically weak for spot freight but it was the highest level for all of 2009.

So things are getting better out there. The trucking economy is showing some signs of picking up. Maybe not as fast as we would like, but the trend is now going in the right direction which means soon more freight will need to be shipped and trucking companies will start to hire truck drivers again. And when they do they just might find that there aren’t enough drivers out there.

When the economy picks up and stabilizes, experts believe there will be a shortage of drivers as more freight is shipped again and as more and more Baby Boomer drivers retire. Many carriers are concerned about the driver shortage, but are not yet willing or able to hire more in anticipation of the coming shortage. But they do anticipate the need to find qualified and responsible drivers. Carriers know they have a very short window of opportunity to recruit the drivers they need when the need arises. Will you be ready?

If you have been sitting on the couch, wondering what to do with your career, now is a good time to think about truck driving school. Driver Solutions offers a unique program that matches entry level truck drivers with trucking companies providing a company-sponsored truck driver training program.  There will always be a need for truck drivers. Freight will always need to be shipped. Having a CDL license is insurance in tough economic times. Hopefully there won’t be another recession soon, and especially not like this one, but if there is, having a CDL with proper truck driver training can mean the difference between sitting on the couch waiting for a job, or driving the open road, making your own hours, and having a steady paycheck.

USA Truck is hiring truck driversIf you live in Los Angeles and are considering attending truck driving school, check out the opportunity with USA Truck.  The trucking company has expanded it's freight lanes and is adding Los Angeles-based truck drivers to its ranks.  The trucking company is providing company-sponsored truck driver training at a well-known truck driving school.  This is a great way to obtain your CDL license and get a great job in trucking.  You can save thousands of dollars in truck driving school tuition and there's no need to go out searching for a job.  USA Truck is committed to help new truck drivers succeed in their trucking careers.

For more details about the CDL training program, check out the USA Truck job posting on the the Driver Solutions website.

I think a lot of people believe all the need to do is learn how to drive a big rig and they can get any trucking job they want.  While there are a lot of job openings in trucking, this approach is not the best route.  It's important to learn about all of the rules and regulations that are intended to keep both the truck driver and those he shares the road with safe.

PAM Transport Unveils New Look

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 by Mike Curts

PAM Transport updates trucks with new logo. With the start of new decade, a trucking company is taking steps to promote it's effort to emerge from the recession with the re-dedicated attitude of a transportation industry leader. As a part of PAM Transport's efforts to update their brand, a revised logo and additional graphics are being applied to the company's fleet of trucks.  The company has retained it's red and black motiff in the newest rendition of a classic trucking logo.  The first newly-decaled trucks began appearing this week at the trucking company's home offices in Tontitown, AR.  I've uploaded some photos of the new look on Flickr.  PAM Transport has long been a popular trucking company known for its company paid truck driver training program.  Many truck drivers began their trucking careers by attending cdl training sponsored by PAM Transport.  I'm sure many veteran drivers will recognize the trucks even with the new look.

"Queen of the Road" Report Focuses on Exceptions, Not the Rule

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

Truck driving schools have been getting a bad rap lately thanks to bloggers like Jason Cox, and newscasters like Dan Rather.

Rather recently aired a piece on "Dan Rather Reports," his show on HDNet, about truck driver training schools & their "lack" of real training. In "Queen of the Road", he interviewed a 45-year-old single mom who got into trucking only two years ago. She took a three week course on truck driving and got a job with a major carrier, but felt she wasn’t trained well enough to be out on the road by herself. She told Rather that in the three weeks of training, she only drove on the street twice.

Obviously there are truck driving schools out there that promise the moon, and yet don’t deliver the goods. There might be a couple of bad apples out there, but Driver Solutions isn’t one of them. We’re not a ‘CDL mill’ as many people like to call them. It benefits no one to pass a driver through a CDL training course so they can fail on the road. That’s unsafe for everyone!

At Driver Solutions, we take pride in the fact that we have a very intense driver training course. We make it clear that truck driving isn’t for the faint of heart, it’s a difficult job, and students should think long & hard before making the commitment to start a truck driving career.

Driver Solutions wants to put truck drivers on the road who are prepared and educated. Our three week course includes a week of classroom training, where the students learn the basics about the road and the truck. The second week is practical training on a range course with an instructor. And the third week is spent driving on the open road, again with an instructor, who can guide the student and answer any questions he or she might have. Our students are put through the ringer in a short period of time, but in the end, everyone must pass a Department of Transportation certification test.

At Driver Solutions, we work with a network of trucking companies to train and place their new truck drivers. If we produce poorly-trained drivers, our customers would stop working with us, and our reputation will be damaged. And with 100% job placement, it's obviously within our interest to produce drivers who actually know how to drive.

Not all truck driving schools are the same, as Rather might suggest. There are always exceptions to the rule, and he found one of them. Most truck driver training schools want to put safe drivers on the road because, well…that’s their job.

The bottom line is not what’s in the bank account. We make no promises that a student will triple their money in the first few weeks. The bottom line is the safety of the drivers we put on the road…it has to be since we’re all driving on the same roads with these newbie truck drivers.

FMCSA To Raise New Carrier Safety Requirements

Wednesday, December 30, 2009 by Mike Curts
In the past two weeks, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has begun enforcing the New Entrant Safety Assurance Process rule, which requires newly registered truck and bus companies to meet stricter safety requirements.

"Safety is our highest priority," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. "This new rule says that we are serious about having safe trucks and buses on the road. This is important for those behind the wheels of these big rigs and those who share the road with them."

Any time the U.S. Department of Transportation enforces stricter safety requirements, it makes the roads safer for all of us.

At Driver Solutions, a complete CDL truck driver training school, we already train our students to think "safety first" at all times, but we will be updating our curriculum to reflect the new requirements as soon as they go into effect.

Under the new federal requirements, a newly registered truck driving or bus company will automatically fail its safety audit if violations of any one of 16 essential federal regulations are discovered. These regulations cover everything from controlled substances and alcohol testing, to hours-of-service rules, as well as driver qualifications, vehicle condition, and carrier insurance responsibility.

At Driver Solutions, we teach our truck drivers to perform a pre-trip inspection before they begin to drive their truck each time. If a driver has been on the road for five hours and stops to use the restroom or grab a bite to eat, he is trained to go over his truck with a fine tooth comb. Something could potentially go wrong during those five hours and if the driver doesn’t inspect his truck, he might miss a problem which could be a safety hazard for him and other drivers when he gets back on the road.

As the new rules are written, they apply to new carriers. This is understandable because they have not yet established any poor habits, so getting the new truck drivers to comply will be an easy task. Eventually, all drivers should be held to these same regulations. Driver Solutions students have already been trained to the highest safety standards, so the new regulations, when applied to all drivers, will have little effect, but it’s nice to know that the roads are safer because of the new rules established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

‘Tis the Season to Be Jolly…and Give Back!

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

Driver Solutions, the leader in truck driver training, is trying to lead in other ways to serve the community.  We're doing things a little differently this holiday season. Instead of just helping out those in need in our own community, we’re helping those in need halfway around the world by holding a winter clothing drive. With the help of an organization called ServLife International, all donations that we receive from our employees will go to Northern India & Nepal to keep children & orphans a little warmer this winter. But Driver Solutions is still here to help out our own community…for every item of clothing donated, we’re donating $5 to Riley Kids, an organization we’ve supported over the years who helps children & families of children dealing with life debilitating conditions & diseases.

And during the holidays isn’t the only time Driver Solutions likes to help others. Throughout the year, we host at least 3 blood drives benefiting the Indiana Blood Center. And for each blood donor that participates, Driver Solutions makes a donation to another charitable organization, such as the Humane Society of Indianapolis & Riley Children’s Hospital. We also hold canned food drives to help out Gleaner’s Food Bank in Indianapolis from time to time. Also, a little something Driver Solutions does for its employees is a volunteer program where the employee is allowed 8 hours per year to participate in a volunteer event or activity of their choice & the company pays them to do it! So they basically get paid to go out and try to make a difference in our community.

Hear how some of our employees feel about working for a company like Driver Solutions & how it impacts them personally. (Don't make fun, but I'm in this video!!)

In the New Year, Driver Solutions hopes to be able to give more & reach others throughout our community & beyond, and we challenge everyone else out there to do the same. Also, if you know of a charity or a volunteer program that needs a little help, let us know! We’re always ready to help out those in need.

Christmas Gift Ideas For New Truck Drivers

Friday, November 20, 2009 by Mike Curts

On the commute to the office this morning, I heard an XM Radio commercial for Rand McNally. Rand McNally is the leading producer of maps and road atlases. With a world of information just a click away, the idea of a paper driver's atlas seems as old-fashioned as a rotary dial phone. Well, it looks like Rand McNally has embraced today's latest technology with a new truck driver-focused GPS. The intelliroute TND 500 GPS unit brings a wealth of essential trucker information right to your fingertips. Some of the features that set this GPS apart from standard consumer models are the propiretary truck routing suggestions and maps trucker tools like truck stop locations and a cross-reference to the information contained in the Rand McNally Motor Carriers' Road Atlas. You can check it out at Rand McNally's website.

Think about what a useful tool this could be for any new truck driver freshly out of truck driver training program. I've seen the map reading and trip planning courses taught at trucking schools. There's a ton of information in Motor Carriers' Road Atlas if you can remember how to use it. With this GPS unit, a new truck driver doesn't have to flip pages back and forth just interpret the information and figure out his route options. It's all conveniently displayed on screen in a simple, easy to understand format. I can't think of a better gift this season for someone just finishing truck driving school. Mark Kinsel, president of Driver Solutions, a company providing truck driver training and driver job placement, commented that he thinks "it's great that Rand McNally has developed a GPS specifically targeted for use by truck drivers."

So, this is one idea for a Christmas gift for a truck driver, especially one straight out of truck driving school.  Please feel free to comment with other trucker Christmas gift suggestions.

Driver Solutions' Employees Help Others By Giving Back

Thursday, November 19, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

So, the holidays are fast approaching & first up is Thanksgiving. While we should all be thankful everyday for what we have, this is the time of the year to recognize how lucky we really are and give thanks any way we can. I have a story that makes me very thankful that I have a roof over my head, I can pay my bills, and I’m in good health. Just last week, the company I work for, Driver Solutions – a truck driver recruiting company, found out that the wife of one of our employees has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that has already spread throughout her body. And the fact that they actually found it in the first place was amazing. She thought she just had a cold, but it wouldn’t go away. When they took her to the doctor, she was told she had pneumonia & was admitted to the hospital. It was there that more tests were run and the cancer was found.

Unfortunately, to be able to pay the bills, my coworker had to continue working instead of staying at home with his sick wife. This was unacceptable to the company, so our Human Resources Director, Kari Roesslein, set up a fund to help the family in their time of need and to make sure our employee could stay at home & spend as much time with his wife as he could, while he still had her in his life. Driver Solutions vowed to match every penny that was donated by employees, and that they did. In just 4 days, employees at Driver Solutions, from the truck driver training instructors & the CDL examiners to the truck driver recruiters, raised $3,802.00. Incredible! And with the 100% match by Driver Solutions, the total donation given to the family was $7,604.00. To me, this was unbelievable. To think that just everyday ‘Joes’ could come together like this to help out a ‘family member’ in need, even when we’re all feeling the economic crunch. And I’m not trying to “toot our own horn” but I’m just so proud…proud that these are the type of people I work with everyday and that Driver Solutions is the company that they are.

And that’s not the only way Driver Solutions’ employees are helping others. Throughout the year, our company hosts blood drives & cookouts with proceeds benefitting the Indiana Blood Center & numerous charities around the Indianapolis area. Recently, Driver Solutions held a blood drive & provided a catered lunch for those who donated blood. And for those just wanting a good meal, a full lunch was available for $5, with all proceeds, plus a 100% match by the company, going to the Humane Society of Indianapolis. There are so many things that can be done to help all of those in need in our own communities.

So, now I challenge you to give back & to be thankful for what you have. If you want to help make a difference in someone else’s life, donate to your favorite charity or to the American Cancer Society. And if you have a story that you’d like to share, about someone in need or how you’ve helped others, leave it in the comments section below. I’d love to hear about it!

Remember, every little bit helps…and it helps more than you know. So if you can give, give. And challenge your friends and family to do the same!

Is Your Job Market Slow? Check Out Truck Driving!

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

I read an article in my hometown newspaper the other day about locals, along with others across the country, being worried about the economy & especially the job market. The article talked to some people who had jobs & felt lucky, some who had jobs but not in the field they have a degree for, and some who didn’t have jobs at all & are having a hard time finding one.

My state isn’t the only state that has seen a decline in available jobs and an increase in unemployed workers. The entire country has felt this crunch, but there’s still one industry with job opportunities throughout the U.S. that is still, and always will be, hiring new employees. Can you guess which one? That’s right…the trucking industry. Truck driving jobs are plentiful & trucking is a great-paying, stable industry that this country will always rely on. Ever heard the saying ‘If you got it, a truck brought it’? It’s so true! There aren’t many products today that only ship via railways or water. Some, yes, but not a lot. So this just means that with a CDL (commercial driver’s license), your job market will always be growing & hiring, which is great for you!

One thing many people don’t know is how to get a new career started in the truck driving industry. Well…let me tell you just how easy it is! Many trucking companies want you to either have truck driving experience or they want you to attend a CDL training course. And good, quality CDL truck driver training can get pretty expensive. Not to mention, you’ve got to find your own job. One company that has taken all this into consideration is Driver Solutions.

Driver Solutions & their network of trucking companies and CDL training schools have created a unique program to help new truck drivers break into the trucking industry. Once you’re qualified with the Driver Solutions Network, they will set you up to attend an approved, top-notch CDL training school and secure you a job offer with a well-respected, stable trucking company. Of course, this is all contingent that you pass the required DOT physical and drug screen.

So if you’re down & out or just lucky but not really happy, check out a career as a professional truck driver. It might just be the opportunity you’re looking for!

How Do CDLs Work?

Tuesday, October 6, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

The Commercial Driver's License (CDL) program has been in place since 1986 to ensure that drivers of large trucks and buses are qualified to operate those vehicles safely. A CDL is issued by each state, but there are established minimum national standards set by the federal government. Basically, the Department of Transportation is in charge of CDL licenses, but you'll visit your local BMV to actually get it.

Drivers need a CDL if they drive a Class A, Class B, or Class C commercial motor vehicle.

  • A Class A vehicle is a combination vehicle, your typical truck and trailer, that weighs more than 26,000 pounds. The kind you see out on the highway.
  • A Class B vehicle is a single vehicle that weighs more than 26,000 pounds.
  • A Class C vehicle is a single or combination vehicle that doesn’t meet the definitions of a Class A or Class B, but is designed to transport 16 or more passengers or is able to carry hazardous materials.

To receive a CDL, you have to pass knowledge and skills tests administered by your state. To pass the knowledge test, you must correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions. To pass the skills test, you much successfully perform all required skills for the type of vehicle you expect to operate.

The minimum age to hold a CDL is 18 years old. However, federal law says you must be 21 to drive across state lines, transport hazardous materials, or transport interstate freight within the state. That means since most truck driving jobs you can get after driving school are OTR jobs (i.e. across state lines), you'll have a tough time getting one if you're under the age of 21.

When you attend a CDL truck driving school, you'll earn a CDL Permit during your first week. To get one, you'll need to pass the CDL general knowledge exam, as well as any other exams, such as air brakes & combination vehicles, for the vehicle(s) you want to drive. You'll learn how to do that at any truck driver training school.

Driver Solutions & their network of trucking companies have begun using online learning tools to help the students that go through their programs study for and pass the CDL permit exams. eGears, an online interactive learning resource, is used by all Driver Solutions students before they attend the CDL training school, and the results have been amazing! More students are graduating than ever before thanks to the use of the eGears products. eGears is just a simple tool to help students prepare for truck driver training by learning all the basic knowledge that's needed to succeed in a truck driving career. To learn more about eGears & their CDL learning tools, check out their website!

Truck Driver Training Gets High Tech

Saturday, September 19, 2009 by Mike Curts
There's a new service on the market for folks looking to get their CDL license.  eGears is an online service that provides web-based trainnig for the CDL Pre-Trip Inspection, CDL permit, Haz Mat, and a whole lot more. The folks at eGears posted a video on YouTube. There's nothing else like this on the web for cdl training. If you are considering attending a truck driving school or getting your cdl license, you should check out the benefits of the eGears training.  The CDL pre-trip inspection training alone is well worth your time.  The video is all professional looking with a great quality, narration and editing.  This isn't some guy with a camcorder walking around a truck.  Trust me, if you are about to take a CDL skills exam, you need to check out eGears.  Visit the eGears website.

Many Unemployed Find Comfort in Trucking

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

Since the U.S. started showing signs of a recession, many companies have tried to stay afloat, mainly by letting some or most of their employees go. Unfortunately, this has left many Americans without a job and nowhere to turn. Even people with great educations have been left in the dark, finding no work in their chosen professional fields.

So what’s a person to do?
Well…one industry that is, as I like to say, “recession proof”, is truck driving. Like nursing and law enforcement, the trucking industry will always be needed in the American economy. Many people looking for a job these days are beginning to realize a career as a truck driver just might be the answer. More and more unemployed workers are signing up for CDL training every week! And what’s so attractive about being a truck driver, you ask? Well, probably the potential to make great money. Your average new, inexperienced truck driver can make around $40,000 during their first year of driving. Not many other entry level positions have that kind of earning potential when just staring out.

How do you get started in trucking?
Starting a new career in the trucking industry isn’t as easy as you’d think, unless you’ve got a little help. Just going to a CDL training school or having your friend teach you how to drive a truck isn’t enough. Most trucking companies who hire truck drivers with little to no experience want them to go through a company approved truck driving school. If you just go out and pay for it yourself, you’re probably going to spend a lot of money and still not have a job. One thing you can do it contact all kinds of trucking companies to see if they’d be willing to hire you. Or…you can make it easy on yourself and contact the Driver Solutions Network.

Driver Solutions, a truck driver recruiting company, works with P.A.M. Transport & USA Truck to train and hire inexperienced truck drivers. Driver Solutions will make sure you’ve got a job offer with one of their companies before you even attend the truck driver training school. Not only that, but the company that hires you will sponsor the upfront costs for your tuition. And Driver Solutions works with a network of CDL training schools approved by both trucking companies, so you won’t have to worry about them accepting your education.

So, quit waiting around and get started in a new truck driving career today!

Truck Driving School Enrollment Soaring

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

All across the country, CDL training schools have experienced a major increase in truck driving school applicants. With the country’s economy in its current state, many unemployed or underemployed Americans are turning to one of the most stable & best paying careers out there – Truck Driving!

A career as a truck driver has been one of the most sought after professions ever since the recession became a clear reality. The biggest mistake people make is not securing a truck driving job before they attend the CDL training school. They just don’t understand that it’s still difficult to get a job in the trucking industry, unless you go through a company program. Many trucking companies want you to attend one of their approved training facilities before you go to work for them. So just going out, getting your CDL, & then trying to find a driving job is not the way to go. If you find a company that you would like to work for, see if they have certain requirements for hiring inexperienced drivers.

Driver Solutions, a truck driver recruiting company, works with P.A.M. Transport & USA Truck to train and hire inexperienced truck drivers. And they have a network of CDL training schools approved by both trucking companies, so you won’t have to worry about them accepting your education. Driver Solutions will make sure you’ve got a job offer with one of their companies before you even attend the truck driver training school. Not only that, but they’ll sponsor the upfront costs for your tuition. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

So, just do some research and find out if the trucking industry & a new career as a professional truck driver is right for you!

Rough Economy = More Truck Driver Training Students

Monday, August 17, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

Even though the American economy is still sagging, there is one industry that has never been so profitable – the truck driver training industry. Every day, each week, more and more students sign up for CDL training hoping to become a professional truck driver. And I can see why it’s booming! It’s a very desirable entry level pay rate and one of the most stable industries in the country.

But you’ve got to be careful out there…many CDL training schools will have no problem training you and taking your money. And you won’t know this at the time, but when the CDL training course is complete, you won’t have a job and you’ll find that it’s extremely difficult to get hired on by a trucking company after you’re done with your CDL training. This is where one company, in particular, stands out from the rest of the crowd – Driver Solutions makes sure you’ve got a job offer before you head out to the CDL training school.

Driver Solutions, a truck driver recruiting & placement company, pre-hires and trains inexperienced truck drivers, preparing them for an OTR driving job with a well-respected trucking company. And, to help you get started in this new career, the Driver Solutions Network trucking companies pay the upfront costs of your tuition!

Starting a New Career is Easy with CDL Training

Monday, June 22, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

The American economy has seen better days, but there’s one industry that is still seeking more qualified employees…the trucking industry. And with company-sponsored CDL truck driver training, it’s easier than you think. Imagine, traveling the country, seeing all the sites you’ve always wanted to see, and getting paid well to do it!

Today, many Americans are searching for jobs, but they’re just not that abundant anymore. You either aren’t qualified or don’t have enough training. Well, trucking is different than most careers. There are many truck driving positions open, but CDL training is rather expensive. Many people don’t know this, but you can get someone to pay for your truck driver training!

One company, the trucking industry leader in company-paid CDL training – Driver Solutions, is offering paid training and an entry level truck driving job without any upfront tuition costs. Driver Solutions, along with their network of trucking companies, has made it easy for you to start a new career and become a well-paid professional truck driver. All you have to do is check out the Driver Solutions’ website to see if you qualify. A new career in truck driving just might be down the road!

Selecting The Right Truck Driving School

Thursday, May 21, 2009 by Mike Curts

For anyone facing a career change which requires formal training program, such as truck driving school, selecting a good school with job placement assistance is critical.

It’s becoming a trend in this rough economy.  There are a lot of truck driving schools willing to train the unemployed or under employed workers. But these truck driving schools are experience huge problems with helping their students find jobs once they graduate with a CDL.  Just 18 months ago, truck driving jobs were easy to come by.  Nearly every trucking company was hiring truck drivers and it was easy to qualify.  Unfortunately, most of the trucking driving schools experienced a surge in enrollment as people flocked to careers with more job security.  But at the same time, the economy was slowing and so was the demand for freight services.  Trucking companies reacted swiftly by hiring less and less and tightened their qualifications.  With smaller trucking companies going bankrupt and owner operators squeezed out, Suddenly, the labor market was flush with experienced truck drivers and trucking companies were choosing experienced drivers over graduates of the local truck driving school.

Yet, there are many slick truck driving school recruiters making claims of truck driver jobs paying $45,000 to $50,000 to entice people to enroll.  The reality is graduates who paid thousands of dollars for CDL training are discovering they can’t qualify for the available trucking jobs.  In fact, there is a trucking school in suburban Detroit MI that is facing the threat of a lawsuit from graduates that are unable to find a trucking job.  The school made its money by charging large tuition fees, so they aren't’t about to change their tactics.  It sort of sounds like those sub-prime mortgage lenders that have cost so many families to lose their homes.  If you are considering attending a truck driver training program, it’s recommended that you choose a company-sponsored CDL training program.  Driver Solutions offers a CDL training program that actually qualifies you for an entry-level truck driver job prior to beginning the company-paid CDL training program.  Driver Solutions has developed relationships with leading trucking companies that are currently hiring graduates of the Driver Solutions program.

MI School Sued for Truck Driver Training Fraud

Tuesday, May 19, 2009 by Mike Curts

A Michigan CDL truck driving school is being sued by seven former students who allege that the truck driver training school violated 11 Michigan provisions of the Consumer Protection Act and Advertising laws, as well as made false representations of the program to entice the students to sign contracts.  Check out the news story.

The suburban Detroit school is accused of promising their customers they’d make over $40,000 in the first year and that they would always be helped out with job placement, a promise that is said they did not keep.  And each customer has to sign a contract that puts them ‘on the hook’ for the $6,000 training tuition, all the time being reassured by the trucking driving school representatives that they would never have to pay for it…the trucking company that they go to work for will pay it, even though they don’t know who that company is yet.

Unfortunately, this isn't’t just an isolated case with one school in Detroit.  It’s happening nationwide at truck driving schools.  Several trucking companies have stopped recruiting truck driving school grads altogether.  For instance, Schneider National used to run their own truck driving school, but shut it down and has even stopped hiring any inexperienced truck driving school graduates.  It may sound like a grim outlook, but really it just means you have to make smarter more informed decisions about your truck driving career.  There are still good trucking companies hiring new drivers, but they are more selective and prefer you attend an approved truck driving school.  Look for trucking job opportunities that offer real company-sponsored CDL training.  One business that does offer true company-paid CDL training is Driver Solutions.  Before you can attend the CDL training program, Driver Solutions has to get your application qualified with one of their network trucking companies.  With CDL training & an entry-level truck driving job with the Driver Solutions Network, inexperienced truck drivers will never have to worry about getting left behind.  By going through the Driver Solutions CDL truck driver training program, you’ll have the option to choose which sponsorship plan fits your situation best – Basic, Classic, or Premier.  To learn more about the Driver Solutions Driver’s Choice sponsorship programs, visit our website.

Truck Driver’s Truck Gets Hijacked

Wednesday, April 29, 2009 by Mike Curts

Yesterday, 27 year old Milo Banks led Georgia police on a nearly 70 mile chase after stealing a semi tractor. Truck driver, Torrey Lang, was in the parking lot and noticed Banks get into his truck and start to take off. Lang jumped on the side of the tractor and ended up hanging on the back while the thief drove the stolen truck down I-75 through seven Georgia counties. Lang was able to call 9-1-1 to report the theft. The hour long chase began to slow when police threw out spike strips to blow the truck tires, and it eventually ended with Lang jumping off the truck uninjured and Banks being pulled from the truck and tackled to the ground by about a dozen police officers. Banks is now facing multiple charges, including fleeing from police and kidnapping to theft by taking.

I just found this to be an interesting story. With the economy the way it is,people seem to be getting more and more desperate, making thievery their new way of life. All they have to do, instead of stealing trucks from those who work for a living, is go to CDL truck driver training and get a financially stable career for themselves! The Driver Solutions Network is currently training and hiring inexperienced truck drivers. For more information on this great truck driving opportunity, visit the Driver Solutions website.
