PAM Transport president comments on fleet rebranding.

Monday, February 8, 2010 by Mike Curts
PAM Transport has bee undergoing a rebranding effort to unite all of their subsidiary fleets under one name, the flagship fleet name of PAM Transport.  Over the years, acquistions by PAM Transport continued to operate under their original fleet names.  And while the specialty services these divisions provide will remain the same, the rebranding effort makes it easier for existing and potential customers to recognize the fleet and associate the superiour customer service.

In commenting on the PAM Transport rebranding efforts during the release of the company's 4th quarter earnings, PAM Transport's president Daniel Cushman stated:

"Another accomplishment completed in the fourth quarter 2009 was the rebranding of P.AM. Transport, which effectively combines the operations of several companies acquired over the last several years under the P.A.M. Transport, Inc. operating name. The benefits of communicating the services we provide in terms that customers, both existing and potential, understand outweigh any residual benefit of continued operations in the original names of the companies acquired, such as Choctaw Express, Inc., Decker Transport Co., Inc., Allen Freight Services, Inc., and P.A.M. Dedicated Services, Inc.

"We appreciate our customers' and employees' support through this transition, as it will provide us greater market visibility, operating efficiencies, and market position for 2010."  In addition to renaming the subsidiary fleets, PAM Transport also updated the company logo which will eventually adorn all of the company trucks & trailers.

PAM Transport is currently providing company-sponsored CDL training for qualified applicants thru the Driver Solutions Network. Learn more about joining the PAM Transport team.

PAM Transport Unveils New Look

Tuesday, January 5, 2010 by Mike Curts

PAM Transport updates trucks with new logo. With the start of new decade, a trucking company is taking steps to promote it's effort to emerge from the recession with the re-dedicated attitude of a transportation industry leader. As a part of PAM Transport's efforts to update their brand, a revised logo and additional graphics are being applied to the company's fleet of trucks.  The company has retained it's red and black motiff in the newest rendition of a classic trucking logo.  The first newly-decaled trucks began appearing this week at the trucking company's home offices in Tontitown, AR.  I've uploaded some photos of the new look on Flickr.  PAM Transport has long been a popular trucking company known for its company paid truck driver training program.  Many truck drivers began their trucking careers by attending cdl training sponsored by PAM Transport.  I'm sure many veteran drivers will recognize the trucks even with the new look.

Truck Driving is a Veteran-Friendly Job Option

Monday, December 28, 2009 by Mike Curts
Many trucking companies are actively recruiting veterans of the military to work in the trucking industry. Trucking companies know that when they hire a veteran they are getting a well-trained, honest, loyal, and trustworthy employee. They know that the years of service these men and women have given to their country have prepared them for any kind of challenge that they may face while driving truck.

According to G.I. Jobs, which has recently released its list of the Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers, trucking companies such as J.B. Hunt Transport Services (ranked #16), Schneider National (#18), and Werner Enterprises (#25) are all committed to hiring veterans because they possess the skills and characteristics that make dependable and reliable truck drivers.

Of course, the qualities that veterans bring to the table are desired by most employers, but truck driving is an industry that most military veterans can adapt to easily with the long hours on the road, the loneliness that is often times part of the job description, and the extended periods between seeing family and friends.

There is no question that veterans are at the top of the list of applicants we like to see come through. Trucking companies already know that men and women who have served in the military have been trained by our country's finest, and will definitely make some of the best employees. Even if they know nothing about driving a truck, veterans are easily taught the skills that make a fine truck driver. Trucking companies know that military veterans are dedicated to service, are able to consistently follow through with orders, and are likely to make truck driving a career & not just another job.

Trucking companies understand that military veterans make great truck drivers and have gone out of their way to make the truck driving positions desirable to veterans. Schneider National, which has made G.I. Jobs list for four years, offers extended benefits and differential pay for soldiers deployed 18 months, guaranteed home time for weekend drill and annual training, a quick-hire process, and nationwide opportunities throughout their network of offices, maintenance facilities, and operating centers. Schneider, like many other trucking companies who made the list, understands that hiring a veteran is a great move for the trucking company as a whole.

The Driver Solutions Network trucking companies, USA Truck & PAM Transport, are also great places for military veterans to get their start as a professional truck driver. Just like many other trucking companies, the Driver Solutions Network trucking companies know how important their truck drivers are (they’re the backbone of the company) and having truck drivers with previous military experience is always a plus.

Remembering Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Wednesday, November 4, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

This week, November 1st – 7th, is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. In recognition, I would like to reflect on the truck drivers I’ve had the pleasure of meeting & working with since I’ve been here. These are some of the nicest, coolest people I’ve ever met…and they have some of the greatest stories!

When I first started at Driver Solutions, I worked with a couple of different drivers – Walter Bell & Tim Ross. I actually worked with Tim Ross over the period of a couple of months & each time I was scheduled to meet with him, I couldn’t wait to hear the next story he was going to tell me. And he always talked about his family. His wife, daughter, & granddaughter were more than supportive of his truck driving career & it created a better way of life for them, as well. I worked on 4 different videos with Tim, basically outlining how he got into truck driving & how it changed his life for the better.

Before Tim decided to go truck driving school with Driver Solutions, he had quite the resumé – he served his country in the United States Army for eight years, was a supervisor, & a bodyguard for an entertainment security company. After being a boss & getting bossed around, Tim finally decided to look into a career in the trucking industry.

As you probably have figured, a truck driving career can be very hard on someone with a family. Tim’s wife supported him in whatever he wanted to do, his daughter had just graduated high school, & he wasn’t a ‘pawpaw’ just yet so it seemed like the perfect time to make that commitment. Now, he’s a truck driver trainer for P.A.M. Transport, making the best money he’s ever made in his life, & he loves every minute of it.

So check out Tim’s story – all 4 video segments – and if you see a truck driver this week, just say thanks. Remember…if you got it, a truck brought it!

Many Unemployed Find Comfort in Trucking

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

Since the U.S. started showing signs of a recession, many companies have tried to stay afloat, mainly by letting some or most of their employees go. Unfortunately, this has left many Americans without a job and nowhere to turn. Even people with great educations have been left in the dark, finding no work in their chosen professional fields.

So what’s a person to do?
Well…one industry that is, as I like to say, “recession proof”, is truck driving. Like nursing and law enforcement, the trucking industry will always be needed in the American economy. Many people looking for a job these days are beginning to realize a career as a truck driver just might be the answer. More and more unemployed workers are signing up for CDL training every week! And what’s so attractive about being a truck driver, you ask? Well, probably the potential to make great money. Your average new, inexperienced truck driver can make around $40,000 during their first year of driving. Not many other entry level positions have that kind of earning potential when just staring out.

How do you get started in trucking?
Starting a new career in the trucking industry isn’t as easy as you’d think, unless you’ve got a little help. Just going to a CDL training school or having your friend teach you how to drive a truck isn’t enough. Most trucking companies who hire truck drivers with little to no experience want them to go through a company approved truck driving school. If you just go out and pay for it yourself, you’re probably going to spend a lot of money and still not have a job. One thing you can do it contact all kinds of trucking companies to see if they’d be willing to hire you. Or…you can make it easy on yourself and contact the Driver Solutions Network.

Driver Solutions, a truck driver recruiting company, works with P.A.M. Transport & USA Truck to train and hire inexperienced truck drivers. Driver Solutions will make sure you’ve got a job offer with one of their companies before you even attend the truck driver training school. Not only that, but the company that hires you will sponsor the upfront costs for your tuition. And Driver Solutions works with a network of CDL training schools approved by both trucking companies, so you won’t have to worry about them accepting your education.

So, quit waiting around and get started in a new truck driving career today!

Truck Driving School Enrollment Soaring

Wednesday, August 19, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

All across the country, CDL training schools have experienced a major increase in truck driving school applicants. With the country’s economy in its current state, many unemployed or underemployed Americans are turning to one of the most stable & best paying careers out there – Truck Driving!

A career as a truck driver has been one of the most sought after professions ever since the recession became a clear reality. The biggest mistake people make is not securing a truck driving job before they attend the CDL training school. They just don’t understand that it’s still difficult to get a job in the trucking industry, unless you go through a company program. Many trucking companies want you to attend one of their approved training facilities before you go to work for them. So just going out, getting your CDL, & then trying to find a driving job is not the way to go. If you find a company that you would like to work for, see if they have certain requirements for hiring inexperienced drivers.

Driver Solutions, a truck driver recruiting company, works with P.A.M. Transport & USA Truck to train and hire inexperienced truck drivers. And they have a network of CDL training schools approved by both trucking companies, so you won’t have to worry about them accepting your education. Driver Solutions will make sure you’ve got a job offer with one of their companies before you even attend the truck driver training school. Not only that, but they’ll sponsor the upfront costs for your tuition. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

So, just do some research and find out if the trucking industry & a new career as a professional truck driver is right for you!

In the quarter ended June 30, 2009, P.A.M. Transportation Services, Inc. (P.T.S.I.) reported a net loss of $2.36 million; a loss of $0.25 per share in Q2. For the six month period ended June 30, 2009, the company saw a 37.1% increase in net loss compared to the same period the previous year.

Daniel Cushman, the newly appointed President of P.T.S.I, had this to say: “The P.T.S.I. team wants to thank Bob Weaver for his excellent contribution for many years of committed and valued service. P.A.M. Transport’s 2009 First Quarter Results Announced

Thursday, April 30, 2009 by Mike Curts

For being in the midst of a severe economic recession, P.A.M. Transport is one trucking company that’s holding it together. Even though the company reported a first quarter net loss greater than the same period last year, P.A.M.’s operating loss for the first quarter of 2009 was reduced by about 9% compared to Q1 of 2008.

P.A.M. Transport is continuing to focus on expense items, looking for opportunities to reduce or eliminate cost and ultimately decrease the impact of the weak freight environment on the company’s bottom line. An in light of all the troubles in the automotive industry, P.A.M. Transport is identifying new business opportunities, trying to overcome an extremely competitive freight market. For a company whose major customers are facing the worst times, P.A.M. Transport will have to succumb to many more changes to make sure they’re able to ride this storm out.

Schneider National Halts Hiring Inexperienced Truck Drivers

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 by Chelle Micklin

North America’s largest truckload carrier, Schneider National, has stopped hiring truck drivers that have little to no experience behind the wheel of a big rig. Now, all open driving positions with the company have been reserved for veteran truck drivers. This is in part due to the state of the American economy, which has forced many trucking companies out of business and has allowed the remaining carriers to tighten their hiring criteria. Trucking companies like Schneider are able to stop recruiting inexperienced truck drivers because they say there are now more experienced drivers in the trucking industry than there are jobs.

But there is at least one company that isn’t affected and is still recruiting inexperienced truck drivers – Driver Solutions. The Driver Solutions Network recruits and trains inexperienced truck drivers, as well as obtains a job offer from trucking companies like USA Truck and P.A.M. Transport before the CDL training begins. So if you need a job or are looking for a career change, the trucking industry and Driver Solutions are great places to start.

What Trucking Companies Are Still Hiring?

Monday, March 9, 2009 by Mike Curts
I get asked a lot these days, "which trucking companies are still hiring new truck drivers?"  And my answer is both USA Truck and P.A.M. Transport are hiring new drivers that completed the Driver Solutions company-paid CDL training program.  You see, these trucking companies are very financially responsible companies.  They understand the costs involved with hiring a new truck driver.  And that understanding is a big reason each of these trucking companies are members of the Driver Solutions Network.  Both USA Truck and P.A.M. Transport do a good job of controlling their recruiting costs.  As a result, these companies have been able to continue to offer the company-paid truck driving school program when other trucking companies are lucky to just have a few trucks.

So if you are looking around at CDL training options, take a close look at what the Driver Solutions Network can offer: a good entry level driving job, great benefits and job training that you can qualify for regardless of credit.

Success as a Truck Driver - The Story of Tim Ross

Wednesday, November 12, 2008 by Chelle Micklin

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Tim Ross, a truck driver trainer for P.A.M. Transport, and was able to hear his story of how he became successful as a professional truck driver.  Tim’s story started as many do, just looking for something better.  Before getting into the trucking industry, Tim served his country in the United States Army, was a supervisor, and a bodyguard for an entertainment security company.  It was time for a change.

The idea of being out on the open road with no one to manage but himself enticed Tim to take a look at a truck driving career.  After doing some research on the trucking industry, he realized he needed to get a commercial driver’s license, or a CDL, to get started, which is pretty expensive.  Tim came across the Driver Solutions Network and liked what they had to offer.  Driver Solutions has a network of CDL truck driver training schools and trucking companies that will cover the upfront costs of the CDL training and provide inexperienced truck drivers with a job offer before they ever attend the trucking school.  Tim found that the Driver Solutions CDL training program was the best fit for him and he signed up to attend the trucking school.  The CDL truck driving school provided Tim with the knowledge and skills needed to safely drive a commercial vehicle.  Once he completed the truck driver training course and obtained his CDL, Tim was ready to move on to the next step in his quest to become a professional truck driver, OTR training.

Check back soon for part two of Tim’s truck driving story.
