In order to qualify for a Class A CDL truck driver job, you should meet some basic criteria to prove you are able to handle a class A vehicle type which has been designated as “any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds provided the GVWR of the vehicle(s) being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.” – Federal Highway Administration (FHWA):Here are some of the basic requirements:
- At least 22 years of age
- Ability to be away from home at least 1 week (7 days) at a time
- No convictions for a DUI (drug or alcohol-related) offense in the last 5 years
- No more than one DUI (drug or alcohol-related) offense in a lifetime
- Must hold a valid U.S. driver's license for one year
- Must have a U.S. residential address within the hiring area
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and DOT drug screen
