When it comes to CDL training, one of the most difficult things to learn for many inexperienced drivers is backing up the truck. Although they may not have any problem backing up their car or another automobile, backing up a truck is definitely a new ball game.With our Trucking Tips contest, we were able to receive several pointers that can be helpful for anyone having troubles with backing up a truck. Here are just a few:
- Remove all possible distractions before backing up (this includes turning off the radio)
- G.O.A.L. (Get Out And Look) - don't be afraid to do this as many times as necessary
- Assess your size and space if your truck will fit - this includes overhead space as well
- Get a proper setup and avoid over-steering
